dialecto

English
Although a perfectly good technical term in linguistics, popular use of dialect is seldom positive.
Please avoid!   Use: variation | variant
You rarely see dialect used for English, Spanish, French, German, etc. It is reserved for referring to minority languages.
I grew up hearing my parents asked: Do they speak a language or just a dialect?
e.g.: "The three Ixil-Maya languages." or: "The three Ixil-Maya variants."

Spanish
In Español or Castellano, dialecto has even stronger pejorative connotations.
Please avoid!   Use: variación | variante

truthiness

On truth | Untruth
  • There's what actually happened, percieved differently by those involved.
  • There's thus the different tellings of the story by participants and gossip.
  • There's the memories and versions thereof, some hardened by retelling.
  • There's reinterpretation as memories are "seen in a different light."
  • There's the story pre-conceived by, e.g.: a journalist, framing the leading questions.
  • There's what we actually said. (Wish we had our own recording :) )
  • There's what was selected to fit the journalist's narrative.
  • There's the editor's further reframing.

  • So what is true or "the truth"?

  • Mix liberally with intentions, perceived intentions and projected intentions,
many per person, participant or not.
  • Multiply by lies, damn lies & statistics   see: How to Lie with Statistics

  • It's the risk you take when you agree to be interviewed.

. . . and that's the truth . . .
